Di Costanzo Wines is the passion project of Erin and Massimo Di Costanzo. Erin is a celebrated wine professional whose rich experience in the wine industry spans from restaurants to retail and from New York City to Saint Helena. Massimo’s journey in wine has taken him from the UC Davis Viticulture and Enology program, to harvests in Italy, Argentina and South Africa. Professional highlights here in the Napa Valley include Ovid Winery, Screaming Eagle Winery and Philippe Melka Consulting. 2010 marked the debut vintage of Di Costanzo Cabernet Sauvignon from the Farella Vineyard. In 2016, DI CO was added to the portfolio.
In the south west corner of the Napa Valley, the Mt. Veeder appellation tumbles down into the Oak Knoll AVA. At that dynamic intersection, they source fruit from a single vineyard, which was planted over 30 years ago. To find hillside Cabernet Sauvignon vines of this health and age in Napa Valley is rare. For this second vintage of DI CO, Massimo added a new block from this single vineyard, which he feels gives this wine an additional dimensionality and complexity. By early September 2017, grapes from both blocks had achieved perfect phenolic maturity and were immediately showing the impressive quality of Cabernet Sauvignon from this temperate and timeless vineyard. Deep blackberry fruit, cocoa, soft mint leaves and a dusty chaparral finish make this a complete and satisfying Cabernet Sauvignon. Collectors who cellar for 6-8 years will enjoy the transformation this wine will show. Decanting for an hour or two today will yield instant pleasure.
