Helms Vineyard Cabernet displays the classic profile of the Rutherford Bench: dark fruit, richly layered with a touch of spice and earth. The finely grained “dusty” tannins so prevalent in the appellation are integrated and harmonious, producing a wine of sophistication and depth. “Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard leaps from the glass with blueberry preserves, menthol and espresso notes giving way to notions of baking spices, black pepper and cedar chest. Medium to full-bodied, vibrant and expressive, if has a firm frame of velvety, approachable tannins and wonderful vivacity, finishing long and fruity.” As the founding winemaker of Dana Estates since their debut 2005 vintage, Philippe Melka continues to work with winemaker Chris Cooney to produce expressive Cabernet from each of their estate vineyards- Crystal Springs Vineyard, Helms Vineyard in Rutherford, Lotus Vineyard below Howell Mountain and Hershey Vineyard on Howell Mountain.
