There are few Oakville estate Reds of this caliber at this price point. Collina Dalla Valle is grown on Dalla Valle’s estate hillside vineyard and made to be enjoyed upon release. Led by winemaker Maya Dalla Valle, the viticulture team considers this the more approachable, baby version of 'Maya', their Estate Red which they've become famous for in the collector's wine world. This newest offering is a compelling testament to what Dalla Valle’s hillside blocks can produce. Blended from the fruit of the estate’s young vines, Collina, which means “hill” in Italian, is intended to be enjoyed upon release—although, like all Dalla Valle wines, it will continue to evolve for a decade or longer. The 2019 is a blend of the three varietals that they farm from their vineyard- the tension and precision of Cabernet Sauvignon, perfume and spices of Cabernet Franc, and the billowing mid palate textures of Petit Verdot. “On the nose a fragrant mix of cardamom, bitter chocolate and strawberry confit jump out of the glass. Tannins are silky and elegant, typical of our terroir. Vibrant notes of Rhubarb pie, toasted hazelnut, and boysenberry are blended with savory tones influenced by the Cabernet Franc, which makes up 50% of the blend, followed by 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot.” Collina Dalla Valle is an uncompromising example of the abilities of their vines and yet again, overdelivers in the 2019 vintage.
