This newly released Arista is gorgeous and exemplifies the best of this appellation. The 2017 offers a beautiful dark, translucent, garnet color and immediately opens in the glass. Greeted by a nose of cool blue fruits, Herbes de Provence, spiced candy, and damp forest floor, it leads onto the palate with a core of deep red fruit. The wine possesses great length with fresh acidity and finishes with tannins that marry pleasantly with the fruit. For the Arista team, the vintage is reminiscent of 2014. The wines are dark, layered, and concentrated with moderate tannins. With great purity of fruit, the wines are eminently charming and approachable now, and will get even better over the next several years. Winemaker Matt Courtney has become an expert in producing exceptional Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley and this offering is a testament to his talents.
